New chess champ crowned

Hunter Smythe | Distorter Media | Distorter | September 17th, 2007

Wanda F. Juggs from Cape Town, South Africa, put the competition to shame during the World Chess Championships in Mexico City, Mexico, defeating all challengers to claim her first World Championship. In the gruelling seven match final against defending champion Vladimir Kramnik, Juggs trapped Kramnik when he suddenly became distracted and the time clock ticking down. The 73 hour 17 minute game was played in searing heat at the Plaza de Mexico which had its air conditioning fail. Both combatants were forced to play in informal attire which may have been too much for Kramnik to overcome.
