Taxi rates hiked
Initial talks about cab price hikes have been evolving for quite some time, but now cab hailers will feel the increase in their pocketbook as soon as they step into the car. London City Council agreed on Monday, September 15 to increase cab fares from $3 to $3.50 the minute you enter a cab.
This move makes cab fares in the city of London the costliest in Ontario.
“It's a business that is being run. When the economy goes down, prices change and increases are made where ever best see fit,” said Brett Stein, an official spokesperson for council's Environment and Transportation Committee.
The reality of our economy is price hikes are occurring in almost every sector.
“The main reason for council to go forth is none other than soaring gas prices, insurance reasons and the safety of the drivers, “admitted Stein.
As far as the security cameras being installed in every taxi go, that is going to take quite some time longer.
“Assuring every cab has a camera installed will be a lengthy process that requires patience and a good manufacturer,” said Stein.
The cab fare hike is already in place and riders will soon notice changes.
