FSU Domestic Student Health Plan: Coverage information and important dates to remember

The Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) Domestic Student Health Plan helps students access health, dental, and wellness services throughout the academic year. If you are a full-time domestic student at Fanshawe College, you are automatically enrolled in the plan as part of your FSU Ancillary Fees. Coverage runs from September 1 to August 31.

The FSU Domestic Student Health Plan includes coverage for:

• Prescription drugs
• Dental care
• Vision care
• Accident coverage
• Extended health services (Physiotherapy, massage therapy. etc.)

Full-time, domestic students are automatically enrolled in the “Balanced Plan,” but there are other coverage options available depending on your needs. You can visit our Domestic Student Health Plan page to read more about different coverage options.

Students can review and change their coverage option for the current school year by September 21 at 4 p.m. Missing the deadline means you will remain enrolled in your current plan for the academic year.

There are three Flex Plans for students to choose from:

• Flex Plan Option 1: Balanced Plan (auto-enrolled)
• Best overall balance of drug, dental, and health coverage
• Flex Plan Option 2: Enhanced Dental Plan
• Best for students who expect to use dental services the most
• Flex Plan Option 3: Enhanced Drug/EHC Plan
• Best for students who need more prescription drug, vision, and extended health coverage

Students also have the option to add dependents to their plan for an additional fee. This can be especially helpful for students with spouses or children who may benefit from extended health and dental coverage.

Opting out

If you already have health insurance through a parent, spouse, or employer, you are eligible to opt out of the FSU Domestic Student Health Plan. Students wishing to opt-out must complete the online process before September 21 at 4 p.m. and provide proof of their alternative coverage. A confirmation receipt will be provided when the opt-out is completed successfully. It may take up to eight weeks for the reimbursement to be received.

Note: Any changes/opt-out/added dependents must be completed within your first semester of the academic year.

Using your plan

Using the FSU Domestic Student Health Plan is simple.

Many healthcare providers can directly bill the insurance provider, meaning you may only need to pay the portion not covered by your plan. Claims can be submitted by mail or online by creating an account at www.alumo.ca . Students who want to mail their claims can pick up pre-addressed envelopes and stamps at the FSU Office (SC1000).
