Advocacy at the FSU: Driven by Students, Powered by Action

Advocacy isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s about creating meaningful change where it matters most to students. At the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), we champion student voices through impactful approaches, data-driven action, and direct lobbying. We work to convince decision-makers to prioritize what matters most, which requires consistency, timing, and strong relationships. By focusing on the issues that impact students, we ensure every voice is heard and every action counts, making your post-secondary experience inclusive, safe, accessible, and high-quality.

Creating Space for Dialogue

You have a voice. We want to hear it. From town halls and in-person consultations to our FSU Feedback Form and newly created Communications team,we give students a platform to speak directly to our FSU leadership and help shape our strategic direction.

Here are some ways that the FSU encourages dialogue with students:

Data-Driven Advocacy

We believe it’s important for all Fanshawe students to have the opportunity to share their voices on issues that impact them. We conduct research and gather student feedback to guide our priorities and strengthen our case for change. Students can share their voice through a variety of channels:

If you would like to share your opinions through FSU surveys and focus groups, email us at fsuadvocacy@fanshawec.ca. Every voice helps us create meaningful change.

Engaging Decision-Makers

We are a non-partisan, not-for-profit student advocacy association. We meet with college leadership, government representatives, and community stakeholders to ensure student concerns are heard and addressed. Our advocacy is shaped by ongoing engagement through:

Empowering Students with Resources

We create and provide tools, guides, and resources to help students navigate challenges and advocate for themselves. Speaking up can feel intimidating, but it’s an essential skill for getting the support you need. Whether it’s requesting an assignment extension, resolving a conflict with a roommate, or accessing services for your well-being, clearly communicating your needs can make a meaningful difference.

  • Talk to your FSU Class Representative: FSU Class Reps are student volunteers who represent their peers and voice their opinions, ideas and concerns in all areas of the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) and college affairs. If you are not sure who your FSU Class Rep is, please send an email to fsuclassreps@nullfanshawec.ca
  • Ontario Student Voices (OSV): OSV is committed to raising awareness about topics such as food insecurity, mental health, affordability and Bill 33 and why it matters to post secondary students. As observing members of OSV, we have access to their resource library and a robust letter writing campaign opposing Bill 33.
