A guide to the appeals process
The College is committed to fair, timely and consistent decision-making that relates to policies and procedures regarding students. The FSU and the FSU Advocacy and Communications Coordinator are here to help with all appeals including grade and academic integrity appeals.
How the FSU can help
- Meet in person/virtually to assist in navigating the appeal process including providing helpful resources.
- Act as a support person during the appeal process.
Helpful Hints
- An appeal must be submitted within seven business days of receiving your grade/academic offence.
- It will take approximately forty-five minutes to complete the appeal.
- Be clear and concise when writing your appeal - stick to the facts.
- Do not use A.I. to write your appeal.
Prior to beginning the formal appeals process, be sure to do the following
- Speak with your professor to address questions and explore a resolution.
- Speak with your Academic Advisor or Program Coordinator to explore a resolution.

- Seek guidance from the College Ombuds or FSU

The following is required to complete prior to completing the Notice of Appeal Form when will begin the formal appeal process:
- Read A128: Student Appeals Policy .
- Gather all supporting documents for your appeal
- Write a Letter of Appeal which will be addressed to the Associate Dean which includes the following:
- A timeline with facts about the situation
- Determine the primary ground for the appeal – a. merit of work b. procedural error c. medical, legal or compassionate issue d. other unfair treatment
- Propose a remedy (outcome) for your case, for example, redoing an assignment or having the assignment re-evaluated.
