The Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) is proud to announce that as of September 2026, our organization will officially be joining Ontario Student Voices (OSV).
For the past year, we have been observing members of OSV, a collective of student associations from across the province that advocates on behalf of students at all levels of government. We have seen firsthand the strength of a unified student movement, one that brings together diverse campuses with a shared goal of equitable, accessible, and high-quality postsecondary education.
This step ensures that our student members have strong representation within a province-wide network, dedicated to influencing policy that is focused on advancing student-centered priorities like mental health, accessibility, and food security.
We have all witnessed significant changes to this sector over the past two years; changes that have led to the gutting of on-campus counselling services, the loss of over 500 College staff and faculty, and the closure of more than 50 academic programs.
Most recently, the new funding model introduced by the Government of Ontario has raised significant concerns among students about affordability, with increases to domestic student tuition and changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) leaving many students worried about rising costs and higher debt.
As your FSU, it is our responsibility to ensure that student voices are not only heard but actively represented when these decisions are being made.
In moments like this, advocacy matters more than ever. Protecting the rights of students requires coordinated, strategic action at the provincial level. While we continue to work closely with Fanshawe College leadership, we also recognize that meaningful change must involve engagement beyond our campus, and that is why we believe now is the time to officially join OSV.
Together, we will continue to stand up for affordability, holding policy-makers accountable, in order to secure the future of postsecondary education in Ontario.
