This year, the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) introduced the FSU Student Leadership Award, recognizing students who demonstrated a high level of engagement and leadership within the Fanshawe College community.

Six students were awarded $1,000 for their incredible contributions to student life at Fanshawe.

The winners of the FSU Student Leadership Award were:

  1. Yelyzaveta Bakalova
  2. Benazir Sheik Ahamed
  3. Thi Thanh Hang Pham
  4. Mitulkumar Mahendrabhai Khristi
  5. Alexander Pirgionas
  6. Gideon Bett

The FSU Student Leadership Award was created as a merit-based award for students in January. Students had to meet the following requirements in order to be considered:

  • Be a full-time student at Fanshawe College and currently enrolled in level 3 or beyond of a post-secondary diploma, advanced diploma or degree program or level 2 of a graduate certificate program
  • Have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative)
  • Demonstrate involvement in the FSU and/or Fanshawe College (preference given to involvement in the FSU)

Gideon Bett, FSU Student Leadership Award recipient:

“As an international student in my final year, the financial landscape of tuition and cost-of-living can be quite daunting,” Gideon said. “This award has been instrumental in alleviating that pressure, providing me with the stability needed to prioritize my academic excellence and leadership commitments. It effectively removed financial barriers, allowing me to focus on finishing my program strong.”
