The Fanshawe Student Union is proposing to put forward the following motion at the December meeting of the Student Administrative Council (S.A.C):
A motion to increase the Student Centre Building Ancillary Fee from $21.00 per term to $23.08 per term, effective effective Fall 2025. ($23.08 is less than the original fee of $25.00)
The Student Centre Building Fee is used to pay the costs for maintaining and operating the Student Centre. It is paid by students at the London Campuses only. The fee was originally approved by a student referendum at $25.00, in 2002, to help fund the construction of the Student Centre. It stayed at $25.00 per term until 2018-2019, when it was reduced to $21.00 per term due to rising student enrolment. The FSU proposes to increase the fee, due to projections for reduced student enrolment and to fund ongoing capital replacement costs for the Student Centre, to keep the space in good condition for both current and future Fanshawe students.
The FSU Bylaw 3.5 (b) states that a motion by the S.A.C to increase a fee by greater than 5% but less than 10%, shall be published on campus for a minimum of 14 days prior to the vote on the motion by the S.A.C. FSU members (full-time post-secondary students at Fanshawe College) who oppose this fee increase may indicate their opposition by adding their names to a petition. If the petition receives the name and student number of more than 10% of the FSU Members, the proposed fee increase must go to referendum.
Fee changes approved by the S.A.C, or if applicable, by a referendum, must then be presented to the Fanshawe College Board of Governors for final approval.
